SEX THERAPY

Sex therapists are trained mental health professionals that work with people to remove the blocks that prevent them from fully integrating their sexuality into their lives. These blocks may stem from past events, a recognition of some part of identity previously unknown or denied, health issues, current relational problems, psychological or social struggles (Tiefer, 2012). In short, sex therapists are trained to listen to sexual stories (Risen, 2010) with an ear towards understanding larger contextual issues that may be contributing to, or maintaining, the presenting complaint.
